Alabama Athlete Suspended Right Before Texas A&M Game Over Team Rules Violation
The junior defensive back had played in every game this season and recorded five combined tackles before Alabama ruled him out, the team said.
Alabama suspended defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. for a violation of team rules ahead of Saturday's game against Texas A&M, a team spokesman confirmed. No specific details regarding the violation were provided.
This marks the second suspension for the junior, who was "indefinitely suspended" by head coach Kalen DeBoer in November 2025 following legal charges. Kirkpatrick is the son of former NFL standout Dre Kirkpatrick Sr.
Kirkpatrick was ruled out on the final SEC availability report released 90 minutes before Saturday's kickoff. Sophomore Ivan Taylor will see increased snaps at strong safety behind starter Keon Sabb.
The Crimson Tide holds a 5-2 record and has dropped back-to-back games, leaving no margin for error. Alabama is treating every matchup like a College Football Playoff game, as no three-loss program has made the field.
Prior to this week, Kirkpatrick had appeared in every game during Alabama's 2026 season. He recorded nine tackles, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup while contributing on both defense and special teams.
