The vehicles targeted by a "stop drive", i.e. a total of 1.7 million in France, will have to be repaired on average 15 days after the appointment under penalty of "high periodicity", said the Ministry of Transport.
The government now intends to require car manufacturers to lend replacement vehicles to people who have been immobilized for more than 15 days by Takata brand dangerous airbags.

The Ministry of Transport announced, in a report published on Tuesday 29 July 2025, the obligation for manufacturers to offer replacement vehicles to certain drivers immobilized because of a dangerous Takata airbag.
In a decree published this Tuesday, Philippe Tabarot announces in particular that the owners of vehicles concerned by the stop drive will be offered a free supply of a courtesy vehicle.
In particular, the document, commissioned by the Ministry of Transport, recommends that vehicles should be identified during technical checks and not be allowed to circulate until the airbags have been changed.
2.5 million vehicles with high-risk airbags remain in circulation. "There are holes in the reminder device," according to a report released this Tuesday by the government.
