Planes draw on Cariboo lake to help fight 1 of 4 new fires
CARIBOO, BRITISH COLUMBIA, AUG 10 – Fire Boss aircraft and air tankers support firefighting efforts against four out-of-control wildfires suspected to be caused by lightning amid hot, dry conditions, Cariboo Fire Centre said.
- Amid four new wildfires, Cariboo Fire Centre deployed Fire Boss aircraft to draw water from Williams Lake on Sunday, Aug. 10.
- Following thunderstorms last week, hot, windy conditions dried out the area, and lightning is suspected to have started all four wildfires.
- Data mapping shows the wildfire near Williams Lake is about 11 km south and estimated at a third of a hectare, while a second fire is roughly 33 km southeast, and a third spans 100 hectares near 100 Mile House.
- Cariboo Fire Centre reports all four wildfires are out of control, with ground crews, heavy equipment, fixed-wing and rotary aircraft involved, and Rank 4 surface fire behaviour observed.
- In the coming days, air tankers will rely on Fire Bosses, including Air Tractor 802s, for rapid water scooping alongside fixed-wing and rotary aircraft.
