Nine departments see on Monday 27 July their air quality classified as "bad" or "extremely bad" due to fires in the south-west. In Gironde, in the Landes and in the Lot-et-Garonne, the threshold of pollution warning for suspended particles has been exceeded.
The cantonal police Basel-Stadt warns of possible smoke from France. Weather expert Peter Wick considers a noticeable air deterioration in the next few days unlikely.
Air quality is at alarming levels in Gironde, Landes, Dordogne, and Lot-et-Garonne due to wildfires in southwestern France. Authorities are recommending wearing masks and avoiding going outside unless absolutely necessary.
