AIPAC Halts Endorsements and Direct Contributions to Candidates
The group will keep its super PAC and political organizing as leaders say new fundraising tools and a tougher 2026 cycle demand a more nimble strategy.
On Wednesday, The American Israel Public Affairs Committee announced it will end formal candidate endorsements and cease making direct contributions from its political action committee, effective immediately as a permanent policy change.
Rising political backlash prompted the organization to conduct a months-long "strategic review" amid mounting resistance over the perceived cost of association with AIPAC, AIPAC leadership said.
Members contributed more than $90 million to candidates this cycle through the portal, while the PAC itself gave approximately $3 million directly, reflecting the group's pivot toward individual donor mobilization.
Despite these changes, the independent super PAC, United Democracy Project , will continue operating as usual, allowing unlimited spending on independent campaigns supporting pro-Israel candidates.
AIPAC leaders aim to build "a more strategic, consequential, and nimble political operation" over the next two years, leveraging new fundraising strategies to heighten activists' direct impact amid political resistance.
The American-Israeli lobby AIPAC is ending direct donations to congressional candidates through its PAC, but will continue to operate through super PACs. The decision comes amid growing political polarization in the United States.
