Super Bowl prepares for potential AI cybersecurity threat
Levi's Stadium deployed nearly 1,500 Wi-Fi 7 routers and a cyber command center to protect 65,000 fans from AI-enabled cyber threats during the Super Bowl.
- On Feb. 4, the NFL established an on-site cybersecurity command center and secured networks at Levi's Stadium ahead of Sunday , Reuters reported.
- Facing rising AI threats and criminal interest, Costa Kladianos said artificial intelligence is a bigger threat than ever while Cisco warned the Super Bowl draws many cybercriminals, prompting work with Silicon Valley partners.
- Cisco installed nearly 1,500 Wi‑Fi 7 routers to serve 65,000 spectators, with Swartz saying, `'When you get to a stadium like this where you're in Silicon Valley, you've got a very tech-savvy crowd with multiple devices probably, you've got to make sure that you can handle all that capacity,'` Cisco engineer Matt Swartz said.
- Upload volumes rose dramatically from around 300 gigabytes to 35 to 40 terabytes, supported by one of two data centers powering Levi's Stadium's largest-in-NFL 4K videoboard.
- With the stakes high, tech teams say they'll be ready like players to ensure fans and networks stay secure, as Costa Kladianos said, `Everybody connected all the time, sharing their experiences is incredibly important, but if that's not safe then we have nothing.
