Ministers gathered for a digital G7 meeting in Paris Friday made progress on online child protection but only nodded to AI’s energy impact in a joint declaration on the sector’s challenges.
Gathered in Paris, the G7 Digital Ministers concluded an agreement on the regulation of platforms and the management of the energy impact of artificial intelligence.
After seeing the United States refuse to sign the joint declaration of the AI Summit in February 2025, Paris, which chairs the G7, hopes to rule on several digital issues with its other partners.
Meeting in Bercy, the respective Digital Ministers of the G7 countries have sealed a major agreement to compel the platforms to protect the mental health of minors. While Paris welcomes a political victory against the drifts of the major platforms, the environmental front suffers from endless debates with Washington.
Meeting in Paris this Friday under the French presidency, the G7 Digital Ministers agreed on a common roadmap on AI security, open source and online protection of minors.
