Before Bypolls, Election Commission Hears TMC Factions Claim over Party Symbol
The poll panel asked the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction to submit more papers as rival TMC groups pressed competing claims to the party symbol.
On Saturday, the Election Commission heard rival claims to the Trinamool Congress name and symbol, as both the Mamata Banerjee-led and Ritabrata Banerjee-led factions presented their cases before the poll panel.
Amid the dispute over organizational control, the Election Commission requested additional documentation from the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction during the deliberations.
Representing the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, a five-member delegation comprising Derek O'Brien, Kalyan Banerjee, Sagarika Ghose, Saket Gokhale, and Abhinav Singh attended the hearing.
The hearing holds significance ahead of bypolls for Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly seats scheduled for October 6, with parties facing a September 16 nomination deadline.
Ritabrata Banerjee, Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, expressed confidence in securing the TMC symbol and requested the commission decide the matter before the nomination deadline.
