After years of studying past results, South Carolina man scores $2M Powerball win
His ticket matched the first five numbers, and the odds of winning $2 million were 1 in 11,688,054, lottery officials said.
A South Carolina man won $2 million in the Powerball drawing after his ticket from the QuikTrip in Mauldin matched the first five numbers drawn.
Years of studying past Powerball results paid off for the winner, who selected the numbers 3, 19, 35, 51, and 67 for his ticket.
The odds of winning the $2 million prize are 1 in 11,688,054; for selling the ticket, the QuikTrip in Mauldin received a $20,000 commission.
When scanning his ticket on May 3, the winner was surprised by the "Claim at Lottery" message and told Lottery officials, "I had a good feeling about my numbers."
Powerball is expanding to build larger jackpots, with 68 cents of every ticket going to the grand prize pool, and officials anticipate faster-growing jackpots will draw more players.
