AISA President Neha Bora Detained Ahead of ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ Protest
Police detained two protest organisers after serving a notice to Abhijeet Dipke, as more than 20 personnel were deployed ahead of the evening rally.
On Friday, Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janta Party leader Abhijeet Dipke and AISA president Neha Bora while they were en route to Connaught Place for the Lehra Do Tiranga protest.
Earlier in the day, more than 20 Delhi Police personnel visited Dipke's residence in Jhandewalan and served him a notice directing him to refrain from actions that could prejudice the rights of citizens.
While Dipke was picked up from his home, Bora was detained in Mandi House, with both incidents occurring in Central Delhi amid chaos as security personnel swarmed the area.
Heightened security arrangements surround the national capital ahead of the Friday evening protest, as Delhi Police actions aimed to prevent potential disruptions in the city center.
Previously, activists including actor-activist Prakash Raj and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal addressed a press conference at Press Club to discuss the movement's objectives before the detentions.
The New Delhi Police arrested Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the youth movement Cockroach Janta Party, and student activist Neha Bora during new protests demanding the resignation of India’s chief of the Election Commission, Gyanesh Kumar. The mobilizations question an electoral roll review that removed more than 130 million names from voters’ lists and that, according to critics, could favor Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party.
