Browns CB Denzel Ward Buys Stake in Hometown Team, Now Minority Investor in Cleveland Guardians
Ward becomes a minority owner as the Guardians add another Cleveland athlete investor to a group led by Paul Dolan and David Blitzer.
On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward officially joined the Cleveland Guardians ownership group as a minority investor, the team announced.
A Northeast Ohio native, Ward attended Nordonia High School and Ohio State University before his 2018 NFL Draft selection and currently leads the Make Them Know Your Name Foundation providing CPR and AED training.
Ward joins Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who purchased a minority stake in May, as recent additions to the ownership group led by Guardians Chairman Paul Dolan and Vice Chairman David Blitzer.
On Tuesday, September 15, the Guardians will celebrate Ward at Progressive Field during their game against the Chicago White Sox, praising his "excellence, character and commitment to this community."
Professional athletes are increasingly acquiring ownership stakes across sports leagues, following the precedent set by NFL star Patrick Mahomes, who invested in the Kansas City Royals; Ward and Kelce represent the latest examples.
