Aerosmith, John Lennon Producer Jack Douglas Dead at 80
His production credits included landmark albums by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick and Patti Smith, family said.
- Renowned rock producer Jack Douglas died on Monday at age 80, his family announced via social media. No cause of death was cited.
- Starting as a janitor at the Record Plant in New York City, Douglas rose quickly after producer Bob Ezrin encouraged his transition to production, leading him to co-produce Aerosmith's "Get Your Wings."
- His career peaked with John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Double Fantasy," for which he assembled an elite band including David Bowie alumni and session players. Following Lennon's murder, Douglas reassembled the group for Ono's "Season of Glass."
- Douglas continued working over ensuing decades with diverse acts ranging from Zebra and Supertramp to Guns and Roses guitarist Slash, and produced projects for a reformed New York Dolls in the early 2000s.
- Late last year, Douglas sat for an interview with Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, and his deep collaboration with Aerosmith included a songwriting credit on the 1977 track "Kings and Queens.
