Evacuation Order Expected, Smoke Hampers Quilpituk Creek Wildfire Fight
BC Wildfire Service expects stronger fire behaviour as 36 firefighters and seven local crews battle the 742-hectare blaze.
- On Thursday, Central Okanagan Emergency Management upgraded the evacuation alert to an order for specific Westside Road properties, including Shelter Cove and Secret Point, as the Quilpituk Creek wildfire threatens the area.
- The Quilpituk Creek wildfire covers 742 hectares, with BC Wildfire Service expecting increased intensity today; crews previously conducted hand ignitions to remove combustible fuel within 200 metres of Westside Road.
- Battling the blaze are 36 BCWS firefighters, 7 local department members, and 14 pieces of heavy equipment, with crews working to create indirect control lines tying into Terrace Mountain.
