Adrian Newey reveals truth behind Lawrence Stroll Honda meeting rumours
Newey said the visit was a routine senior-executive check-in as Aston Martin and Honda work to improve a troubled first season.
On Friday at the United States Grand Prix, Adrian Newey, Aston Martin team principal, acknowledged that "Honda have probably been a little bit disappointed with how much progress" they made this season.
The Silverstone-based squad remains 10th in the constructors' championship standings, with Newey conceding the performance deficit is "fairly clear" compared to Honda's performance when partnering with Red Bull starting in 2019.
Newey confirmed that Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin team owner, met with Honda in Japan for a "scheduled meeting," clarifying such executive sessions occur every two or three months between the partners.
Despite the season's difficulties, Newey insisted the team is "making huge amounts of progress" with strong internal spirit, describing Honda as a company "capable of great things" based on its past achievements.
Looking toward 2027, Newey expressed confidence in Honda's ongoing projects, noting "a lot of promise" in early development stages, though future power unit improvements remain subject to Power Unit Advisory Committee regulations at season start.
