Nigeria: Gov Fintiri Finally Dumps PDP for APC

Governor Fintiri brought all 226 wards and 21 LGAs into APC to support President Tinubu’s agenda and boost Adamawa’s political and economic prospects, officials said.

  • On Friday, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State formally joined the All Progressives Congress by picking up an APC membership card at K/Wuro Ngayandi Ward in Madagali Local Government Area, following Bathiya Wesley and 13 lawmakers' resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party 48 hours earlier.
  • Following stakeholder talks, Fintiri said he left the PDP to align with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming for stability, development, and investment opportunities.
  • Fintiri urged supporters to register with the APC and said he is moving into the APC with all the 226 wards and 21 LGAs, including elected and appointed members, assuring ongoing development programmes will continue.
  • The APC now controls all but one North East state after Fintiri's move, with Borno, Gombe, Yobe, Taraba, and Adamawa under APC while Bauchi remains with the Peoples Democratic Party.
  • On Wednesday, Mustapha Salihu, National Vice Chairman of the APC in the North East, led party chieftains to meet Fintiri at Government House, Yola amid jubilation and a 2023 dispute involving Barrister Yunusa Ari and INEC's intervention.
