The General Inspectorate of Health Activities will carry out an inspection of the Garcia de Orta Hospital due to the suspension of the IVG and the referral of users to a private clinic in Lisbon.
Hospital closed the unwanted pregnancy consultation on August 10 and sent the women to the private unit. IGAS was following the process and decided to move forward with an inspection. DN had already reported information deficiencies and violation of recommendations of this body and the Health Regulatory Entity.
This process aims to investigate how the decision to close the unwanted pregnancy consultation service was implemented and to evaluate the organization of care that will be provided to women.
The entity wants to see whether the decision has been effectively implemented and, above all, how the care of the users of the region is being ensured.
The General Inspectorate of Health Activities (IGAS) decided to move forward with an "inspective action" to the Garcia de Orta Hospital in Almada, after the suspension in August of the unwanted pregnancy consultation.
The local Almada-Seixal Health Unit stopped conducting voluntary termination consultations in early August.
