Australian TV reporter rescues man from sinking car during floods
Will Murray and a bystander pulled the driver from the vehicle as 249 millimetres of rain fell in Morayfield in 24 hours, officials said.
On Wednesday, ABC journalist Will Murray and a bystander rescued a man from a sinking four-wheel-drive on Buchanan Road in Morayfield after the vehicle stalled in floodwaters.
Record-Breaking rainfall inundated southern Queensland, with Bureau of Meteorology gauges recording 170mm in Morayfield on Wednesday and more than 300mm across some areas of the region.
Footage captured the men pulling the driver from the vehicle moments before it submerged completely. ABC camera operator Liz Pickering, who witnessed the rescue, said the pair "definitely saved that man's life."
Beyond the roadside rescue, heavy rainfall has inundated homeless camps in Moreton Bay, prompting charity Nourish Street to issue an urgent call for assistance on Thursday morning regarding conditions at Wylie Park.
Charity owners described conditions at Wylie Park as "unacceptable," citing saturated ground and soaked bedding, and warned that replacing wet tents on waterlogged ground is no longer a viable solution.
