- On Friday, Jan. 16, Downdetector logged multiple outages hitting X, formerly Twitter, with more than 77,000 problem incidents reported in the United States at 10:15 a.m. EST.
- Reports showed the cause was unclear and Downdetector recorded simultaneous Cloudflare disruptions, while X, formerly Twitter, had not issued an official explanation.
- Shortly before 10:30 a.m. ET, reports showed problems surged and briefly eased around 10:35 a.m. before returning at 10:41 a.m., with 56% tied to the X mobile app and error codes 522 and 500.
- Tens of thousands of X users worldwide were left unable to access the platform, with regional heatmaps showing over 7,000 affected in the United Kingdom, more than 2,700 in Canada, and about 690 in Singapore.
- This disruption follows past Cloudflare-related incidents as recent months saw outages in November and December 2025, while controversy over Grok-generated images led X to block 3,500 pieces of content and delete more than 600 accounts.
