Ukrainian Soldier Survives After 5 Days Crawling with Throat Cut by Russian Troops
Vladyslav, 33, endured severe injuries after being captured and tortured by Russian forces and spent five days crawling to safety before receiving critical medical care, hospital officials said.
- On Aug. 25, Suspilne reported that 33-year-old National Guard soldier Vladyslav survived after Russian forces slit his throat and threw him into a pit, then crawled five days to Ukrainian-controlled territory.
- A few weeks ago, his brigade lost control near Pokrovsk and Vladyslav was captured while trying to assist fellow soldiers after that loss.
- Admitted on August 17 to a Dnipropetrovsk Oblast medical facility, the soldier arrived in critical condition with severe blood loss and festering wounds; surgical teams have operated and will continue reconstructive work to restore his speech and breathing, hospital director Serhii Ryzhenko said.
- Now under medical care, Vladyslav is the only survivor among seven other servicemen, communicating in writing and hoping to return to the front while dreaming of his four-year-old daughter.
- The case adds to reports that recorded footage and circulating clips document Russia's forces committing war crimes, highlighting violations of the Third Geneva Convention, Ukraine's Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said.
