Multi-Storey Building Collapses in Delhi's Seemapuri, Rescue Teams Deployed
Several people are feared trapped as firefighters and police search the debris after the collapse, and traffic was diverted nearby, officials said.
On Wednesday afternoon, a three-storey house collapsed in New Seemapuri, Delhi, near Idgah Machhli Mandi. The Delhi Fire Service dispatched three water tenders and an incident response team at 3:30 pm.
The Delhi Traffic Police urged commuters to avoid the affected area, stating "traffic is affected around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads" while requesting lanes remain clear for emergency vehicles.
This incident follows the September 6 collapse of a five-storey building in Satya Niketan, which killed seven people. Investigators linked that collapse to unauthorized renovation work that allegedly weakened structural stability.
In the Satya Niketan case, police arrested operator Shudhanshu Lovneesh and labour contractor Sanoj Kumar after discovering structural alterations including basement debris fill and removal of a ground-floor wall.
As rescue teams search through debris in New Seemapuri, several people remain feared trapped under the rubble. Further details on casualties or structural causes are not immediately available.
