A Taste for Murder review: This picturesque new crime drama is in danger of losing its flavour
Joe joins local murder probes on Capri after a family break turns into a paid consulting role by episode three, ITV said.
Met Police detective DCI Joe Mottram travels to the island of Capri, Italy, in the ITV crime drama A Taste for Murder, seeking respite following the death of his wife, Sofia.
Employing a Death in Paradise template, the series places a fish-out-of-water detective in a picturesque location while using English-speaking actors despite the Italian setting and cast.
Incorporating cooking themes, the show pairs police work with culinary scenes as Inspector Lara Sarrancino works alongside Joe. "I'm starting to think you're a jinx," Sarrancino says.
Darker narrative elements emerge, including potential involvement from the Cosa Nostra, drug trafficking, and protection rackets originating from the nearby bay of Naples.
Personal stakes persist as Joe's daughter, Angelica , grows close to a local involved in the pill trade, while the mystery surrounding his wife's fatal hit-and-run remains.
