US Postal Service Honors American Novelist Sarah Orne Jewett as Part of Literary Arts Stamp Series
The 35th stamp in the Literary Arts series features a portrait of the novelist and is available nationwide, USPS said.
On Friday, the United States Postal Service unveiled a commemorative stamp honoring novelist Sarah Orne Jewett at the Sarah Orne Jewett Literary House in South Berwick, Maine.
Marking the 35th entry in the Literary Arts series, the stamp honors Jewett as a foundational figure in American literary regionalism whose writings captured 19th-century New England life.
Designed by USPS art director Ethel Kessler with art by Mark Summers, the stamp features a portrait against the Maine coast, evoking a scene from her work, "The Country of the Pointed Firs."
South Berwick Postmaster Matthew Kirksey praised the release, stating, "This stamp proudly ensures her timeless literary legacy continues to resonate across the nation and right here at home."
Available in panes of 20 at Post Offices and usps.com, the nondenominated, 3-ounce rate stamp remains valid for the postage rate printed on it.
