A runaway penguin has been found safe in Japan nearly two weeks after she first went missing, having paddled 45 kilometers (28 miles) during a typhoon in a survival story her keeper called “miraculous.”

After two weeks of searching, the guardian of the female penguin Ryosuke Imai no longer had high hopes. The animal escaped and, as the man estimated, the chances of its survival were slim. Raised in captivity, Pen-chan was not prepared to live independently, and to make matters worse, Japan was hit by a powerful typhoon. However, the story has a happy ending.
