A New Approach to Treating Brain Cancer: HDT Bio Launches Canadian Clinical Program at McGill University
The investigational therapy has been given under compassionate use, and the company says the planned study will test its safety in patients.
On Sunday, July 12, 2026, HDT Bio Canada Inc. partnered with McGill University and The Neuro to advance HDT-401, an investigational RNA immune activator, into Phase 1 clinical evaluation for glioblastoma in Canada.
Glioblastoma remains among the deadliest brain cancers, killing virtually everyone diagnosed within 15 months, while standard surgical and chemotherapy treatments offer limited survival benefits.
HDT-401 combines Riboxxim, a molecule licensed from Riboxx GmbH of Dresden, Germany, with HDT Bio's proprietary LION nucleic acid delivery platform to convert the tumor microenvironment from immune-suppressed to immune-engaged.
Roberto Diaz, MD, PhD, of The Neuro at McGill University will lead the planned Phase 1 study, with encouraging results from prior compassionate use protocols informing the trial design.
The glioblastoma treatment market exceeds $3 billion annually and is projected to reach $4.46 billion by 2030, underscoring the substantial commercial opportunity and urgent demand for effective new therapies.
