A Masterclass in Local Government Politics: 2 B.C. Veterans Launch Podcast
The show has released over 18 episodes and now serves as an informal mentoring network for B.C.’s roughly 1,200 locally elected officials.
- Brian Frenkel and former Kamloops councillor Arjun Singh launched the YouTube podcast Day to Day Democracy ahead of the Oct 17 local elections to explore how local government works and its challenges.
- The veteran politicians met through the Union of B.C. Municipalities, where both served on the executive and later became president. They aimed to counter social media criticism, with Frenkel saying "council decisions aren't made in 10 seconds."
- Since debuting in February 2026, the podcast has released over 18 episodes featuring guests including provincial health minister Josie Osborne, former Smithers Mayor Gladys Atrill, and Clearwater Mayor Merlin Blackwell.
- Beyond the episodes, Frenkel said the show serves as an informal mentoring network for roughly 1,200 locally elected officials, offering support for those feeling bullied or harassed in office.
- Although Frenkel is not seeking reelection in Vanderhoof, he continues advocacy through Local Leaders for Mental Health and plans to reach new councillors at leadership sessions starting in January.
