Unions, community groups to hold demonstration in Montreal against Quebec government
Over 4,500 community organizations and major unions protest government bills targeting group autonomy and underfunding in health and education, organizers said.
- On Saturday the large demonstration `Dans la rue pour le Québec` will take place in downtown Montreal, with major labour unions and community groups marching from 1:30 p.m.
- Réseau Québécois de l'Action Communautaire Autonome campaign manager Claudia Fiore-Leduc said the Quebec government has passed `one bill after another` targeting community autonomy and imposed budget restrictions on health and education.
- The rally brings together nine major unions and five provincial umbrella groups representing 4,500 community organizations, including the four FTQ federations, CSN, CSQ, CSD, FIQ, FAE, APTS, SPGQ, and Syndicat de la fonction publique et parapublique du Québec.
- Unions argue the François Legault-led government's shift to the right jeopardizes long-standing social gains, with Claudia Fiore-Leduc warning `When our autonomy is attacked, democracy is attacked.`
- Organizers expressed surprise at the mobilisation's size, saying `We are dismayed to see the scale of this,` and community groups said they are `just as angry` as unions; the report was first published Nov. 29, 2025.
