Claude AI-Shared Erotic Role-Play and Legal Advice Surfaced on Google After Privacy Blunder

On Saturday, users discovered private Anthropic Claude conversations appearing in Google search results, exposing confidential legal advice and intimate role-play sessions alongside users' names or handles.
Anthropic uses a standard robots.txt file to block web crawlers from shared chat pages, but Google notes it may still index disallowed URLs if they are linked elsewhere on the web.
Google spokesperson Ned Adriance stated search engines process content made public by site owners, while Anthropic declined to explain why it failed to implement the 'noindex' tag across shared pages.
Search engines have since stopped indexing shared Claude chats, and Anthropic provides a Your Data setting allowing users to rescind access to previously shared conversations and artifacts.
While the exposure affected 519 conversations, the incident mirrors a controversy involving OpenAI's ChatGPT last year, which prompted the company to remove public link indexing altogether.
