BOLIVIA - Scientists have identified a new species of wild cat in the cloud forests of Bolivia's Yungas region, the first in more than a century. The small beast, known locally as the tilcayo, has been officially named Leopardus tilcayo. The discovery was confirmed by research after Bolivian biologist Paola Nogales-Ascarrunz suspected the identity of a cat from a nearby shelter.
A shrine in Bolivia decided to hide from visitors the "Tigrino", the face of the newly discovered species of feline Leopardus tilcayo. The measure aims to protect the small animal, easily frightened, from the sudden tourist fever generated around its discovery.
