An international team of researchers discovered a new type of feather-coated little dinosaurs in China, in a discovery that provides additional data on the evolution of flying features in dinosaurs and birds.
The discovery of a new dinosaur with feathers in northeastern China showed that dinosaurs and birds did not inherit the flight capacity of a common ancestor, but developed these capabilities independently and convergingly. The fossil, baptized by Norellraptor barsboldi, analyzed by an international team of scientists from China and Italy and described in an article published in Nature Communications, changed what was known about how dinosaurs co…
The discovery in China of Norellraptor barboldi, a 120 million-year-old feather predator, proves that the ability to fly on Earth has appeared on many occasions. These new and unpublished anatomical analyses confirm an independent evolution of this ability in these small theropods, well before the true ancestors of our current birds.
A perfectly preserved feathered dinosaur fossil from China has provided another strong argument for the idea that the ability to fly may have evolved in more than one straight line leading to modern birds.
A tiny creature of just 57 centimetres has just been exhumed in northeastern China; a discovery that could well further branch the genealogical tree of flying animals.
