A bespoke card is created for a mum every second during ‘Mother’s Day fortnight'
Moonpig data shows UK mothers receive 85% more cards than on Valentine’s Day and send an average of 13 cards and 15 gifts annually, highlighting their key role in gift buying.
Across the UK's Mother’s Day fortnight, Moonpig reported a bespoke card for a mum is created every second.
Moonpig's research showed mums do the bulk of card and gift buying, with 346 million cards and 395 million gifts sent annually across the UK.
The retailer found 85 per cent more cards are sent for Mother’s Day than Valentine’s Day and two-and-a-half times more flowers are delivered to mothers than lovers.
A quarter of card buyers wait until the final 48 hours, and Rachael Halliday, spokesperson for Moonpig, said the data shows mums drive the UK's gift economy.
Survey figures indicate motherhood now includes wider maternal figures, with 22 per cent relying on this network including mothers‑in‑law and grandmas , while 27 per cent turn to a work mum and 17 per cent to an unrelated 'auntie'.
