85 years ago the battle of France took place. The Panzers won decisive battles in Belgium and around Sedan. Victories won despite fierce and sometimes heroic resistance from the French troops. The Netherlands signed an armistice with Nazi Germany and panic seized the allied camp.

Rotterdam commemorated the 85th anniversary of the German Nazi forces' bombing of the city on May 14, 1940, on Wednesday. Just under 900 people lost their lives in the bombing, and 80,000 Rotterdammers lost their homes due to the devastating bombardment.

On the day that exactly 85 years ago a German bombing destroyed almost the entire center of Rotterdam, 106,000 poems will descend on the city from the air. The organizers of Bombing of Poems are not afraid that this will lead to extra work for the municipal cleansing.
