80 Years of End of War: Forced Labour and Nazi Crimes in Burgenland - Burgenland

Around 50 people thought of the Nazi victims at the memorial at the cemetery in Ettlingen, with the focus on euthanasia crimes.

As early as March 1945, the first troops of the Red Army reached Burgenland and initiated the end of the war and the end of National Socialism. While the Wehrmacht withdrew increasingly and partly capitulated before the official end of the war, the winter of 1944/45 was marked by violence, forced labour and Nazi crimes. At that time, numerous massacres, severe suffering and the death of countless forced laborers occurred in Burgenland.
