On February 3, 1945, the engines of American B-17 bombers rumble in the sky. The first wave arrives an hour before noon. Tons of bombs are pouring down on the Mitte and Kreuzberg neighbourhoods, and strong winds are fanning the flames of the fires. Among the 6,000 buildings affected is the huge Anhalt railway station, with its extensive rail system. It's completely destroyed.
