Jailed former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson being investigated over alleged rape inside Parliament
Police say the allegation involves one victim and the investigation is in its early stages, with no arrests made.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they have opened a formal investigation into an allegation that former Democratic Unionist Party leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson raped a woman inside the Houses of Parliament in 2016.
The case was referred to Scotland Yard by the Police Service of Northern Ireland after a woman reported that Donaldson gave her a tour of Westminster, dined with her, and took her into the DUP's parliamentary offices where the alleged assault took place.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that specialist officers are supporting the complainant and stated that inquiries remain active and ongoing, though no new arrests have been made at this early stage.
The fresh investigation comes just days after the 63-year-old disgraced politician was sentenced at Newry Crown Court to 15 years in prison following his June conviction on 18 historical child sex offences, including one count of rape.
Following his conviction and recent sentencing, Donaldson has been stripped of his knighthood and removed from the Privy Council, while his legal team has lodged papers to appeal his original conviction.
