HK police took away seven people in Causeway Bay, where past public commemorations for China’s 1989 Tiananmen crackdown were once held, on Thursday, the 37th anniversary of the event.
On the 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, a group of protesters have been detained in Hong Kong as they tried to pay tribute to the victims, even though tens of thousands gathered in the city seven years ago. China shrugs off any memories of its crackdown on protesting students and does not allow even a hint of the tragedy, and quelling resistance to the regime is paramount in Hong Kong, whose autonomy was crushed a few years ago.
Hong Kong marked the 37th anniversary of the repression that led to the death of 10,000 people in 1989 in Tiananmen Square. Five men and two women were temporarily detained.
