Nova Scotia, school support workers reach tentative deal
CUPE says the tentative agreement covers about 5,500 school support workers and cancels planned provincewide rallies and any work stoppage.
Premier Tim Houston announced a tentative agreement with CUPE, representing around 5,500 school support workers including early childhood educators, librarians, and student support workers.
After ten months of bargaining, the Nova Scotia School Board Council of Unions reached the agreement as both parties negotiated with the shared goal of preventing disruptions to the school system.
All rallies provincewide scheduled for Saturday are cancelled, and there will be no work stoppage. CUPE said the agreement "addresses the concerns our members have been raising."
School operations and programs across the province will proceed as usual next week, the best outcome for students, according to Premier Tim Houston.
Details of the agreement will be shared with members in the coming days, with each local contacting members directly regarding the contract and voting process.
