- On Aug. 31, Niagara Regional Police Service arrested Daniel Senecal, 25, of Welland, after officers found a child under the age of five with serious injuries in Welland, Ontario.
- After speaking with the child's parents, investigators say an unknown person defeated the front door of the residence lock and entered between Saturday Aug. 30, 2025 at 10:00 p.m. and Sunday Aug. 31, 2025 at 8:59 a.m., with officers observing signs of forced entry.
- Police canvassed the neighbourhood and reviewed surveillance video, identifying and arresting Daniel Senecal, 25, of Welland, according to 3 District .
- He remains in police custody and is charged with aggravated sexual assault and related offences; Daniel Senecal is scheduled for a bail hearing on Monday at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse.
- Detectives with the Child Abuse Unit lead the investigation, supported by the Sexual Assault Unit and Forensic Services Unit, urging the public to contact the lead detective at 905-688-4111, option #3, extension 1009898 or Crime Stoppers of Niagara.
