Two students dead in Philippines school shooting including gunman, officials say
Police said a ninth-grade student livestreamed the attack and killed a fellow student before taking his own life, as authorities investigated the motive.
A student gunman opened fire inside a classroom at a high school attached to the Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City, southern Philippines.
City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso confirmed two fatalities—a male student and the student shooter, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to preliminary police reports, the gunman brought a pistol and a rifle onto the campus, injuring two others before taking his own life.
University President Ernald Andal stated that there is no longer an active shooter on campus and the situation has been brought under control.
The attack marks a rare incident of gun violence on a Philippine school campus, as strict national firearm ownership laws typically limit such occurrences.
