Reform councillor charged with 35 offences including 12 counts of rape

CPS prosecutors said the case meets the evidence and public interest tests after a police probe into allegations involving four complainants.

  • Reform UK has suspended Hampshire County Councillor George Madgwick after he was charged with 35 offences, including rape and sexual assault. A party spokesman confirmed: "Cllr Madgwick has been suspended from Reform UK with immediate effect."
  • Hampshire Constabulary's Operation Amberstone team launched the investigation on July 24, 2025, after receiving a report of a sexual offence. Officers arrested Madgwick at an address in Wandsworth, London, on January 6.
  • Allegations involve four victims aged between 16 and 17, with offences allegedly occurring between 2008 and 2021 in Portsmouth and Wales. Charges include 12 counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and two counts of making indecent images of children.
  • Madgwick is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Wednesday, November 25, after being bailed. The Crown Prosecution Service decided to prosecute after establishing there was sufficient evidence and it was in the public interest.
  • Proceedings against the defendant are now active, and officials remind all concerned he has the right to a fair trial. Authorities warn there should be no reporting or commentary that could prejudice these legal proceedings.
