45-year-old Venus Williams to play in French Open women's doubles with Hailey Baptiste
The 45-year-old seven-time major singles champion will team with Hailey Baptiste, while skipping the women’s singles draw, organizers said.
On Wednesday, organizers confirmed that Venus Williams, 45, will play women's doubles at the French Open this month, partnering with Hailey Baptiste. The American pair joins the field for the upcoming tournament.
The 45-year-old will skip singles competition, instead focusing on doubles with Baptiste, who is 21 years her junior. This marks a strategic shift in her tournament participation.
Previously, Venus Williams won the French Open doubles title twice, in 1999 and 2010, alongside her sister, Serena. She is a major singles champion who held top rankings in both disciplines.
Earlier this year, Williams was a wild-card entry at the Australian Open, where she became the oldest woman to compete in an Australian Open singles main draw. The achievement underscored her enduring competitive presence.
The clay-court tournament at Roland-Garros begins May 24 in western Paris, where Williams and Baptiste will compete. This marks the pair's debut at the storied venue.
