₹438 crore mephedrone seizure case: Gujarat ATS arrests international drug trafficker Salim Dola
- On Saturday, October 31, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad took custody of international drug smuggler Salim Ismail Dola from a Mumbai jail following his deportation from Turkey on April 25.
- This arrest follows the December 12, 2022, Sindhrot village factory raid, where authorities unearthed an illegal mephedrone manufacturing unit. Investigators identified Dola as the alleged mastermind after an accused associate confessed contact with him.
- Dola's criminal history spans nearly three decades, beginning with a 1998 arrest at Mumbai International Airport involving approximately 40 kg of mandrax. He subsequently rose from a street peddler to a key production head managing bulk networks.
- Intensive interrogation of Dola has begun as Gujarat ATS officials aim to map his transnational network. The investigation focuses on identifying raw material sources, financial transactions, and additional associates in his drug trafficking operations.
- According to a Ministry of Home Affairs statement, Dola established a major transnational syndicate spanning the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. Authorities are investigating these international connections to dismantle his distribution infrastructure.
