4 Upgrades HomePod Mini 2 Has over Its 6-Year-Old Predecessor
The updated speaker keeps the same design and adds Siri AI support, improved connectivity and new colors, with pre-orders starting at $149.
- On Tuesday, Apple announced the HomePod Mini 2, a refreshed smart speaker featuring a new S10 chip and Sound Glow LED interface that syncs with music album art. The $149 device replaces the original model launched six years ago.
- Replacing the dated S5 chip with the S10, the new hardware enables faster performance, Wi-Fi 6E, and BLE 6.0 connectivity. The revision costs $50 more than the original $99 launch price from 2020.
- The Sound Glow feature matches LED colors to album art for a unique experience per song, while expanded audio capabilities allow the Mini to serve as a Mac's default speaker. Users can pair four speakers with the new Apple TV 4K for surround sound.
- While the speaker supports Apple Intelligence with a connected Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, conversational Siri AI features will arrive in a future software update rather than at launch. This delayed rollout means early buyers won't access AI capabilities immediately.
- Pre-Orders for the HomePod Mini 2 opened today, October 13, with shipments beginning October 30. The device comes in five colors: pink, green, blue, white, and midnight.
