4 indicted in Southern California New Year’s Eve bomb plot face new charges

  • On Dec. 23, a federal grand jury returned a six-count indictment charging Audrey Illeene Carroll, Zachary Aaron Page, Dante James Anthony-Gaffield, and Tina Lai with plotting New Year’s Eve bombings in Southern California, the DOJ said.
  • Prosecutors say the group was driven by pro-Palestinian, anti-government, and anti-capitalist beliefs as members of the Turtle Island Liberation Front, operating the Order of the Black Lotus using encrypted messaging.
  • In early December, defendants acquired potassium nitrate, sulfur, charcoal and pipes and tested explosives in the Mojave Desert on Dec. 12, 2025, prosecutors said.
  • All four defendants remain in federal custody without bond; Carroll and Page face life in federal prison, Gaffield and Lai up to 25 years, with arraignments in January in downtown Los Angeles.
  • Authorities flagged the disruption of a credible, imminent threat as the FBI intercepted suspects before completing devices, with the Department of Justice cautioning additional charges may follow in the coming weeks.
