Trump Says He'll Accept Midterm Results, Admits Iran War Hurt Republicans in Election
Trump said he would work with Democrats and blamed higher gasoline prices tied to Iran for hurting Republicans, while warning he would veto bills he opposes.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump congratulated Democrats on their midterm victories in a phone call with CBS News, stating he was "absolutely willing to accept those results" and looked forward to working with the opposition.
Democrats secured control of both congressional chambers Tuesday, inflicting a sweeping midterm defeat on the Republican Party. Trump blamed his party's losses on his absence from the ballot, claiming, "I wasn't on the ballot, and there was nothing that could be done about that."
Trump acknowledged that the war in Iran and high fuel prices weighed on voter sentiment, yet defended his policy, saying, "People agree with what I'm doing on Iran, but they really probably weren't willing to do the short-term consequence of paying more for gasoline."
With Democrats poised to control the House and Senate, Trump warned he would use his "strong veto" power against legislation he considered "insane," telling CBS News, "They'll send over things that are insane, and I'll veto them."
Donald Trump changed his mind again about the reasons for the republican defeat at midterms. "It wasn't so much the war" against Iran "as the high prices," he told the White House. (ANSA). (ANSA)
