3 missing Quebec girls rescued from Richmond Hill home, 2 suspects accused of human trafficking
Two males, aged 23 and 17, charged with multiple human trafficking offences after York police rescued three underage Quebec girls from sexual exploitation.
On Tuesday, York Regional Police located three underage girls from Quebec in Richmond Hill, Ont., and charged two people in a suspected human‑trafficking investigation.
Receiving a tip on Jan. 27 prompted York Region police to focus on locating three missing girls possibly being sexually exploited, sharing information across units shortly thereafter.
Shortly after officers arrived, two girls were seen leaving in a vehicle with a man; officers stopped the vehicle and took the man into custody while investigators entered the residence and arrested a male youth.
Shaikh Sabahat, 23, of Toronto, and a 17‑year‑old Burlington male have been charged with exercising control over persons under 18 and permitting sexual activity.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Counter Exploitation Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext., or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or 1800222tips.com; the other accused cannot be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
