3 men charged in ‘ambush-style’ killing of rising Latin singer; 1 suspect at large
- On Wednesday, prosecutors charged three men with murder in the death of 22-year-old Maria de la Rosa after a shooting around 1:40 a.m. on Nov. 22 near Bryant Street and Tampa Avenue in Northridge.
- Described by prosecutors as an ambush-style attack, suspects approached a parked vehicle, demanded money and opened fire in what prosecutors say may be gang-related robbery.
- Named by prosecutors, the defendants are Francisco Otilio Gaytan, 27, arrested the same day; Benny Licon Gomez, 27, arrested the following day; and Eduardo Lopez, 21, with an arrest warrant issued.
- All three occupants were hit, leaving two critically injured while De la Rosa later died at a hospital, and Hochman warned the defendants face life without parole if convicted.
- Online tributes poured in as authorities sought tips following DELAROSA's death; she was a rising Latin artist with more than 40,000 Instagram followers, and LAPD detectives Simonyan and Lopez urged public assistance.
