3 Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-88 in Aurora, Illinois, State Police Say
Illinois State Police said the victims were in two cars, and all westbound lanes closed for the investigation after the head-on collision.
Three people died in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 88 in Aurora early Sunday morning when a driver traveled eastbound in the westbound lanes.
Illinois State Police reported that the wrong-way driver collided head-on with a second vehicle occupied by two people traveling in the correct direction.
Troopers responded shortly after 4 a.m. to the crash at milepost 112.25 on I-88 in the westbound lanes for a report of a two-vehicle collision.
All three victims were transported to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead following the impact.
Authorities have not released the names of the deceased, and all westbound lanes on I-88 remained closed to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
