Mangaluru Police Crack Down on Illegal Immigration: 11 Detained
Police said the suspects used fake Aadhaar cards as they verified records of 14 people found at construction sites.
On Monday, Mangaluru City Police detained 11 Bangladeshi nationals, including four minors, from two construction sites near Kodical and KPT in Urwa Police Station limits.
The detentions bring the total number of Bangladeshi nationals held to 19, following Surathkal Police's arrest of eight illegal immigrants at a Mukka construction site on July 10.
Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy reported a West Bengal middleman brought the workers from Bangladesh's Rajshahi district, while some detainees were found using forged Aadhaar cards.
The Foreign Regional Registration Office in Bengaluru has been notified of the detainees, and Reddy confirmed a case will be booked against the middleman as deportation procedures begin.
DCP Mithun H N urged construction firms to verify identity documents for all workers, warning that employers found hiring illegal migrants will face legal action.
