Police arrest 3 in school shooting plot in Atlanta area
Authorities say social media threats led to charges against three suspects, including two adults accused of conspiracy to commit murder.
On Tuesday, Canton Police announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with an alleged plot to carry out a shooting at Cherokee High School, including one adult and two juveniles.
The investigation began October 19 after the FBI identified threatening social media posts and alerted Cherokee County School District Police, prompting detectives to focus on a local teenager.
Officers apprehended 17-year-old Shane Keith Taylor in Metter, Georgia, and 21-year-old Michael Brandon Terry in Chatsworth, California, on October 23; police seized multiple firearms, ammunition, and electronic devices.
"The safety of our students and school staff is a top priority, and we take every threat seriously," Canton Police Chief Marty Ferrell said, praising law enforcement coordination.
Authorities confirm there is no known ongoing threat to Cherokee High School or any Cherokee County school, though the investigation remains active and officials urge parents to discuss threat reporting with children.
