Mississippi police make 2nd arrest in death of Black woman found hanging from tree, seek 3rd suspect
Police say investigators have collected forensic evidence, interviewed up to 15 people and expect more arrests in the homicide case.
- On Tuesday, Jackson police arrested 25-year-old Earnest Lloyd Jr., charging him with the murder of 29-year-old Tasia Fortune, whose body was found hanging behind a vacant house on August 3.

- Police Chief RaShall Brackney confirmed detectives obtained an arrest warrant for a third suspect and are collaborating with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate the individual. Brackney said she would give marshals "a day or two" to find the person.
- Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes questioned armed groups patrolling Jackson neighborhoods, describing what he witnessed as "a scary situation that I saw." Brackney described the activity of groups like the Black Panthers as a "walking presence" in response to concerns about Fortune's death.
- Fortune's mother, Christy Spivey, attended Tuesday's city council meeting as the investigation continues. Her death has drawn national attention and renewed scrutiny regarding other Black Mississippians found hanging in recent years.
